New Trips for 2024

A Bhutanese pilgrim visits Kyichu Lhakhang, an important 7th century temple in the Paro Valley.

Dear Friends,

I trust this message finds you in good health, savoring the beauty of the fall season. Just like you, I'm eagerly anticipating the adventures that the upcoming year promises. I'm excited to reach out to you with a heartfelt invitation, as I prepare to guide two remarkable journeys to the mystical Kingdom of Bhutan in 2024. It would be an absolute pleasure to have you accompany me on these extraordinary expeditions, allowing us to uncover the magic of Bhutan, a place that has truly captured my heart with its natural beauty and profound traditions.

Bhutan is not just another destination; it's a profound experience that has shaped my life. Having explored the nooks and corners of Bhutan since 1985 and having shared these adventures with numerous fellow travelers, my connection with this Himalayan paradise runs deep.

Here are the essentials:

  • Trip Dates: April 16-30 or November 12-26, 2024

  • Land Cost: $8995 per person, based on double occupancy

  • SDF (Sustainable Development Fee): $1400 per person, contributing to Bhutan's future

  • Airfare: An all-inclusive $995 round trip from Bangkok

This is not a mere trip; it's a pilgrimage for the heart. Our itinerary is meticulously crafted to offer a full two weeks in this kingdom, allowing you to immerse yourself deeply in its pristine landscapes and spiritual essence. Bhutan is not a place to rush through; it's a destination to savor, absorb, and connect with at a profound level.

Uncover Hidden Gems. Our journey takes you through Bhutan's most celebrated destinations, including Paro, Thimphu, and the ancient capital of Punakha. We’ll also share some my personal favorites, such as the Pemacholing Nunnery and the enchanting Ogyencholing Manor House in the central Bhutan valley of Tang. This valley is not only the spiritual and cultural heart of the kingdom but also a place where you'll discover hidden treasures and heartwarming stories.

Visit remote corners of Bhutan. On the November departure, in the high, once-glaciated valley of Phobjikha, we will witness the annual return of the remarkable black-necked crane, a symbol of grace and rarity. During spring, the high mountains are adorned with blooming rhododendrons, creating a breathtaking spectacle. The 400-year-old Gangteng Gompa, home to the Gangteng Tulkus, offers a unique opportunity to connect with Bhutan's living history and traditions.

Engage with Authentic Experiences. I’ve carefully designed our days to be filled with deep cultural explorations and optional day hikes, allowing you to connect with the countryside and its people. Explore ancient dzongs, which serve as both monastic and civil authority fortresses, filled with incredible architecture and sacred temples. Visit vibrant villages, interact with the local communities, and gain insight into Bhutan's rich Buddhist heritage. Delight in Bhutan's renowned woven textiles, handicrafts, and indulge in the flavors of the national cuisine, including, "ema datsi" – a spicy chili and cheese delicacy, that is Bhutan’s national dish.

Stay in Unique Accommodations. Our selection of accommodations reflects the diversity of Bhutan, ranging from intimate family-run inns to comfortable lodges and even a luxury riverside tented camp in Punakha. The Zhiwaling Hotel in Paro, the only Bhutanese-owned and operated 5-star hotel, is a long time personal favorite. Together, these lodgings provide a profound understanding of Bhutan's culture and its people.

Experience "Slow Travel". Bhutan is a destination best explored slowly, allowing you to appreciate its true beauty and depth. This journey embodies the essence of intentional travel, offering you a rare opportunity to fully embrace the authenticity of Bhutan.

Join an Insightful Adventure. Traveling to Bhutan is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most, so it's crucial to make it meaningful. After my 38 years of traveling to Bhutan, I'm eager to share these profound journeys with a group of compassionate, thoughtful, and enthusiastic travelers like you.

With only a few spots available, the time to act is now. Group size is intentionally limited to ensure a close-knit experience, with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 14 guests. To secure your place on these exceptional departures, a deposit of $1000 per person is required. If the timing and itinerary resonate with your travel aspirations, kindly reach out via email, and I'll gladly reserve a spot for you. I'll guide you through every step of the journey, from obtaining your Bhutan visa to booking your flights on Druk Air (with entry and exit via Bangkok, Thailand).

Craft your own tale. If the call to adventure stirs your spirit, or if you wish to customize your own Bhutanese odyssey, I'm here to make that dream a reality.
